The 2025 Emerging Cup Grand Final at Forshaw Park brought together two fierce local rivals – the Bosco Bulldogs and the Engadine Dragons – in a derby that had all the ingredients of a classic. With the clubs based just a block apart, there was more than a premiership at stake: bragging rights in one of the Shire’s most passionate rivalries.
The Emerging Cup, designed as an under-21s competition that excludes senior representative players to promote development and progression into A-Grade or A-Reserves, has become a proving ground for young talent. For Bosco, it was about finally taking that last step after near misses in recent seasons. For Engadine, it was a chance to put a disappointing A-Grade campaign – where they finished last in 2025 – behind them by showcasing a new generation of Dragons.
Bosco had been the benchmark all season, finishing as minor premiers on the back of their consistency and balance. The Bulldogs edged Engadine 10–0 in a grinding semi-final to go straight through to the Grand Final. The Dragons, determined to keep their season alive, took the longer route, overcoming Gymea in a tight Elimination Final to set up a decider that would double as the ultimate tie-breaker.
The final itself lived up to expectations, a bruising and tight contest that reflected the intensity of the rivalry. Bosco struck first and held the ascendency throughout, their defensive line proving near impenetrable as Engadine battled to break through. The Dragons fought hard, keeping the margin close, but the Bulldogs’ determination to finally lift the trophy was clear.
When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read Bosco Bulldogs 12 – Engadine Dragons 4.
At long last, the Bulldogs had delivered on their promise, seizing the big moment and claiming their long-awaited premiership. For Bosco’s young squad, it was not just a title but a statement – that they can rise to the occasion when it matters most.
For Engadine, the loss will sting, but their Emerging Cup campaign showed signs of a bright future, with a mix of talent that could soon translate into higher grades. For Bosco, it was a night to savour – getting one over their arch-rivals in a local derby for the ages, and finally emerging as champions.
