As the sun was setting on the final day of the Cronulla JRL Grand Finals for 2020 the stage was set for one of the most anticipated matches of the weekend with Aquinas up against rivals St Josephs in Emerging Cup.
The match certainly lived up to expectation with both teams putting on a display of quality rugby league in a see-sawing match where it was likely to go either way right to the very end. The lead changed multiple times throughout the match with some spectacular tries scored by both teams including a flying effort by Joey’s Kitione Kautoga.
As the clocked ticked down towards full-time it was Joeys who held onto a slender 2 point lead. With less than 10 seconds left in the match it was time for a Hail Mary play by the colts who kicked to their outside and scored to steal victory as the hooter sounded.
The Colts celebrated, the conversion was kicked and the final score was 20 - 16 is what can only be described as an amazing game of rugby league.
