De La Salle Claim Southern Sydney Plate with Victory Over Arncliffe

The 2025 Southern Sydney Plate (A-Reserves) Grand Final provided a fitting curtain raiser to the Power Waste Management Cup at Forshaw Park, as De La Salle overcame a determined Arncliffe Scots outfit to secure an 18–10 victory.

This year’s competition featured 11 teams drawn from both the Cronulla Junior Rugby League and St George Junior Rugby League, divided into two conferences. In the Rogers Conference, De La Salle finished as minor premiers and booked their spot in the Grand Final after accounting for Gymea in their Conference Final. In the Gasnier Conference, the Arncliffe Scots marched through, defeating Taren Point in a spirited display that underlined their grit and determination.

That set up an enticing decider: the might and depth of De La Salle, a club with a proven record in senior premierships, against the proud and historic Arncliffe Scots, a St George institution with loyal supporters. The hill at Forshaw Park was alive with colour and noise – De La Salle’s faithful, known as “The Vatican,” filling their traditional perch, while Scots fans gathered in strength at the northern end of the ground.

The match lived up to the billing. Arncliffe absorbed everything De La Salle threw at them, hanging tough deep into the second half. But with just 12 minutes to play, trailing by eight, the Scots suffered a crucial blow when a player was sin-binned. Down a man, their resistance faltered, and De La Salle were able to close the game out with their trademark composure.

At the final whistle, the De La Salle supporters poured onto the field to celebrate another triumph, their depth and experience proving decisive once more. For Arncliffe, there was pride in the performance but also the sting of what might have been, as their fairytale run ended just short.

Final Score: De La Salle 18 – Arncliffe Scots 10.
