De La Salle finish strong to defeat Gymea in NRL curtain raiser at Pointsbet Stadium

Last Sunday afternoon some of Cronulla JRL's best up and comers were given an opportunity to showcase their talent on Pointsbet Stadium as the curtain raiser for the NRL match between the Sharks and Bulldogs.

On what could only be described as perfect winters day, De La Salle and Gymea took to Shark Park to play their round 9 match of the u18 Southern Gold 2023 NSWRL competition.

With both sides jammed packed full of Sharks Junior Representative players the match was expected to be both close and of a standard fitting the occasion. Gymea were first to score but as the game played out it was both sides going try for try and so the scores remained close throughout the majority of the match.

With less than 10 minutes to go and Gymea holding onto a slender lead, it was De La Salle who barged over to take the lead before putting the result beyond doubt with a try in the dying seconds of the match.

Regardless of the result it was a great spectacle and an experience the both teams and the referees will not soon forget playing on Shark Park in front of a big crowd with the atmosphere of the building crowd into watch the NRL Sharks straight after.
