The Sharks Matthews Cup, SG Ball and Tarsha Gale teams had their final tune up matches before the start of their 2021seasons when they tackled the Newcastle Knights in trial games at PointsBet Stadium on Saturday.
Against a club in the Knights which traditionally produce strong teams in all competitions, the Sharks more than held their own, scoring a convincing four tries to one win in the S.G. Ball trial.
The Sharks controlled field position and possession right from the very start with Hooker Kobie Wilson dashing out of dummy half to score from the Sharks first set of 6. Jordon Samrani touched down not long after for our second try after chasing a clever Ryan Rivett kick. Fullback Kade Dykes would get on the score sheet twice with two tries before the half time break.
With both coaches making multiple changes the second period became a little messy, the only points coming to the Knights when a chip kick from near to the line bounced in their favour, the final score 4 tries to 1 to the Sharks in what was a solid performance just two weeks out from round one.
