Grand Final Bound - Tarsha Gale Sharks Book Spot in Decider

The Sharks Tarsha Gale Cup side are through to the 2026 NSWRL Grand Final, overcoming the Newcastle Knights in a gripping 14–12 Preliminary Final victory at Leichhardt Oval.

In a match played at finals intensity from the opening whistle, the Sharks struck early through Makayla Vakauta, before the contest settled into a tight arm wrestle. The sides traded blows throughout the first half, heading into the break locked at 10–10.

The second half proved even tighter. The Knights edged ahead via a penalty goal before Chloe Shepard crossed for her second try of the afternoon to reclaim the lead for the Sharks. What followed was a tense final 15 minutes, with Cronulla forced to defend relentlessly — including a period with 12 players after a late sin bin.

Despite the pressure, the Sharks held firm, showing grit, composure and resilience to close out the victory and secure their place in the decider.

The win sets up a Grand Final showdown this weekend at Leichhardt Oval (1:30pm), with the Sharks to face a strong Parramatta Eels outfit.

There is strong belief within the group as they look to replicate last year’s Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership success, with several players — including Koffi Brookfield, Milla Caine and Ella Ropata — bringing valuable Grand Final experience from that premiership-winning side.

Under the guidance of coach Andrew Fifita, the Tarsha Gale squad has developed into a tight-knit and resilient unit, built on effort, connection and playing for one another and with all the pride you expect from a team representing the Sharks.

With a Grand Final berth secured, the entire Cronulla Sutherland Sharks communicty will be behind the girls as they prepare for their biggest test of the season.
