Jr Rep Round 2: Boys Battle Hard Against Eels

The Sharks’ male Junior Representative teams faced the Parramatta Eels in Round 2, serving as curtain-raisers to the club’s first NRL trial of the year. Despite strong first-half performances in both grades, the Eels proved too strong late in each contest.

Harold Matthews Cup

The Harold Matthews Cup clash was a tight affair early, with both sides locked in a defensive battle. The teams headed to the halftime break level at 4–4 after a hard-fought opening 30 minutes.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides crossing and converting to make it 10–10. However, Parramatta found another gear in the closing stages, scoring twice late to secure a 20–10 victory.

While the result didn’t fall the Sharks’ way, the performance highlighted the team’s competitiveness and ability to match it with one of the competition’s stronger outfits for long periods.

SG Ball Cup

The SG Ball Cup fixture followed a similar script. A Sharks penalty goal on halftime ensured the sides were locked at 12–12 heading into the break after a closely contested opening half.

The second stanza proved more difficult, with the Eels gaining momentum and capitalising on opportunities to pull away and record a decisive win.

The results leave both the HMatts and SG Ball Sharks still searching for their first victories of the 2026 campaign, but there are positive signs for both squads.

Both teams will be looking to record their first victory of the season when they travel to Kenthurst in Round 3 to take on the North Sydney Bears.
