Sharks talent a plenty on display in Pre-Christmas Trial

The Sharks Academy buzzed with energy on Friday night as the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball squads played their first trial game of the season against Souths. This traditional pre-Christmas fixture is a highlight on the Sharks’ junior calendar, offering players a chance to prove themselves in front of selectors, coaches, and an enthusiastic local crowd.

With a large squad on rotation, the focus was on evaluating talent and giving every player the opportunity to shine. The stakes are high, with spots in the teams—set to compete in the NSWRL junior representative competitions—up for grabs. Despite the pressure, the young Sharks displayed skill, determination, and pride as they donned the Black, White, and Blue - many for the first time.

Selectors were kept busy, taking notes and identifying standout performances. The competitive spirit on the field was matched by the support off it, as friends and families cheered on the next generation of Sharks talent.

As the selection process continues, the Sharks’ focus remains on player development and fostering a strong team culture. The next trial against the Wests Tigers on January 11 at the Sharks Academy promises another exciting chapter in this journey. Until then, the players and staff take a well-deserved break for the holidays.
