SG Ball Sharks win BIG against Bears

Updated: Feb 28, 2021

The SG Ball Sharks have bounced back from a disappointing round one loss in handing the North Sydney Bears a 50-6 thumping at PointsBet Stadium.

The Sharks showed off their attacking skills in notching nine tries against a tricky opponent, with the Bears coming into the game on the back of a narrow two-point loss to the Parramatta Eels at their last start.

For the Cronulla side the quartet of players in Ryan Rivett, Jordan Samrani, Kade Dykes and Josh Finau, all who spent a summer training with the Sharks NRL squad, led the way, although there were plenty of willing contributors in the comprehensive win.

The Sharks got of to a fast start when half back Rivett poked through before putting Samrani over and when the number seven added the extras it was 6-0 Sharks.

With possession shifting in their favour the Bears mounted an attack and would respond, ineffective Sharks goal line defence allowing them to crash over and following the conversion it was 6-apiece.

From there the Sharks would assert some authority on the contest, Rivett was in the game again, putting Dykes into space, with the fullback showing his speed and agility to score, before hooker Kobie Wilson, backing up a long range run from prop Finau, would outlast the chasers for his team’s third.

Rivett was successful with both conversions as the Sharks went to half time up by 18-6.

While their Matthews Cup counterparts took the foot off the pedal in allowing their opponents back into the contest in the earlier game, there would be none of that in the SG Ball fixture, two tries in succession to Rivett, the Sharks half showing good awareness to exploit the Bears defence, with both four pointers coming from inside the attacking quarter and all of a sudden it was 28-6 and the Cronulla side was in complete control.

Five eighth and skipper Cody Fuz then dummied his way past some tired Bears defenders to score under the uprights, the successful conversion making it 34-6.
